What is the ORIF?

The Orthopaedic Research and Innovation Foundation is an organisation set up by orthopaedic surgeons to improve patient care and the treatment of bone muscle and joint diseases and injuries by funding high quality research in Ireland. In particularly the ORIF aims to support:

  • Basic scientific research projects in the field of articular and meniscal cartilage to benefit patients with cartilage pathology. Researchers will seek to develop strategies and treatments to prevent the initiation or progression cartilage problems
  • Clinical research projects and technique driven surgical development in the general field of orthopaedics to benefit patients with musculoskeletal pathologies. Researchers will seek to develop strategies and treatments to improve outcomes for patients with orthopaedic pathologies.
  • Research projects which are geared toward potentially commercial applications in the field of orthopaedics. Researchers will seek to develop techniques and technologies which will improve existing surgical standard practice while also improving outcomes for patients with orthopaedic pathologies
